Von der Leyen expresses condolences after the passing of Cyprus' former President Giorgos Vassiliou and pays tribute to his modernisation of Cyprus and advancement of its peace process.

With sadness I learned about the passing of Cyprus' former President, Giorgos Vassiliou. A man with a vision, he modernised Cyprus, advanced its peace process and paved its way into our Union. He was a true European. My heartfelt condolences go to his family and all of Cyprus.
